Description
Naturally occurring (-)-form is a major biosynthetic precursor of phenylalanine, tyrosine, and tryptophan and hence of the majority of plant alkaloids. Shikimic acid is also involved in the biosynthesis of lignin, flavonpids and other important aromatic compounds.
