Synonyms
Interleukin-6,BSF2,HSF,IFNB2
Description
IL-6 is similar to other interleukins in that it has a compact globular folding structure and is held in place by two disulfide bonds. The cysteine involved in forming these two disulfide bonds is highly conserved. IL-6, expressed by a variety of cells, regulates cell growth and differentiation in various tissues and is an important pro-inflammatory and immunomodulatory cytokine.
Molecular Weight
The protein has a predicted 20.8 kDa same as Tris-Bis PAGE result.
Purity
> 95% as determined by SDS-PAGE.
Biological Activity
The ED50 as determined by a cell proliferation assay using human TF-1 cells is 0.1-0.5 ng/mL.
Endotoxin
< 1 EU per 1μg of the protein by the LAL method.
Formulation
Lyophilized from a 0.2 μm filtered concentrated solution in PBS. Normally 8% trehalose is added as protectant before lyophilization.
Reconstitution
Centrifuge the tube before opening. Reconstituting to a concentration more than 100 μg/ml is recommended. Dissolve the lyophilized protein in distilled water.
