Description
Danshensu is an active component of Salvia miltiorrhiza that shows wide cardiovascular benefit. It suppresses the formation of reactive oxygen species and inhibits platelet adhesion and aggregation. It also protects myocardium from the reperfusion injury and inhibits apoptosis of H9c2 cardiomyocytes via Akt and ERK1/2 phosphorylation. It increases production of collagenin Detroit 551 cells and attenuates the α-MSH-stimulated melanin production of B16 cells. It may be used as active ingredients in would healing, cosmetic treatments or treating hyperpigmentation. It significantly decreased the level of the marker enzymes (creatine kinase and lactate dehydrogenase) from the coronary effluents and myocardial infarction size in vitro. It also had ROS scavenging activity and boosted endogenous antioxidants such as SOD, CAT, MDA, GSH-PX and HO-1 activities by activating nuclear factor erythroid-2-related factor 2 (Nrf2) signaling pathway which was mediated by Akt and ERK1/2 in western blot analysis. It significantly lowered tHcy in rats with elevated tHcy. Danshensu is a natural compound, which can also be used in cosmetics material.
